CYCLING DAY & NIGHT KULDIGA 2013

With great pleasure we wish to invite you to take part in a Cycling Day & Night in Kuldiga in the afternoon of May 25th, 2013. This event is being organized by the European Commission Representation and the Municipality of Kuldiga - Town of Bikes.

The event has a slogan "Europe, Kuldiga Thinks Green" and is organized to draw attention to the environmental challenges that we are all facing and to the role that Europe is playing in solving them. The occasion will also be used to encourage cycling as an alternative means of transportation in Latvia and to raise awareness for more safety on the roads. Simultaneously the event will promote the need for an active and healthy lifestyle for all and, by cycling in the surroundings of Kuldiga, underline the beauty of Latvia in general and of Kuldiga in particular.

There are more than three distances to be cycled in Day Ride: 10, 25, 35 and 50 kilometers, Night Ride: 25 km. The route promises to be very scenic. The organizers will provide rental bikes, if needed. At this stage we do not know the number of participants, but we expect, as from previous years, it to be well around 2500, including families, students, journalists, ministers, diplomats and the mayors. The tour most likely will receive wide media attention in Latvia and Baltic States.

Please note: traditionaly it is not a cycling race! it is a ride for all loving bike and countryside! The objectives of this event this year 2013 are, to continue to test a new cycling system in Eastern Europe, called Crosspoint Network, used in Holland and Belgium. If it will work in Kuldiga, it will be widely developed in Western Latvia as an example for Baltic States.
